Defence Minister Lauds Pakistan-Bangladesh Relations at National Day Reception

Islamabad: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif was the chief guest at a reception hosted by Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan and his wife, Roushan Naheed, to commemorate the 54th National and Independence Day of Bangladesh. During the event, Asif emphasized the strong bond between the people of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Asif remarked on the positive relations shared by both nations, noting that both governments are actively striving to enhance economic, political, and cultural collaboration. He conveyed his felicitations to the government and citizens of Bangladesh on their Independence and National Day, affirming, “We value our relations with Bangladesh and look forward to deepening our engagement in various sectors.”

The minister commended Bangladesh for its remarkable advancements in the socio-economic sphere. He underlined the historical connections and bilateral ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stressing the importance of fortifying these relations to boost development cooperation between the populations of both countries.

He also acknowledged the shared history and culture of Pakistan and Bangladesh, recognizing it as a crucial element in fostering closeness between the two nations.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain, hosting his inaugural National Day reception, expressed delight at the significant turnout of dignitaries. His remarks followed a productive visit to Dhaka by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Ms. Amna Baloch, who spearheaded consultations between Pakistan and Bangladesh after a hiatus of 15 years.

In his address, Hussain voiced his country’s aspiration to sustain robust and amicable relations with Pakistan. He also highlighted the scenic beauty and welcoming atmosphere of Bangladesh and emphasized the necessity for greater collaboration and mutual understanding.

In addition to the defence minister, several federal ministers were present, including Professor Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Moeen Wattoo, Ham Kamal, Khel Das Kohistani, Malik Rasheed Ahmad, Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, and Muhammad Junaid Anwar.

The high commissioner reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to upholding strong and friendly relations with Pakistan, emphasizing the need for enhanced cooperation and mutual understanding.

The event saw attendance from members of the diplomatic community, civil society representatives, media personnel, and the business sector. The evening featured cultural displays from Bangladesh, alongside traditional culinary offerings such as Bengali Rasgulla and Becky fish, which contributed to a memorable experience.

Muhammad Iqbal Hossain Khan acknowledged the sacrifices of freedom fighters and those who participated in the 2024 mass uprising. He underscored the importance of fulfilling the aspirations of the people in both countries by reinforcing bilateral bonds.

The occasion commenced with the playing of the national anthems of both nations, after which the chief guest, along with the high commissioner and esteemed guests, participated in a cake-cutting ceremony.
