Pakistan and Bangladesh Strengthen Ties at National Day Reception

ISLAMABAD: Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif attended as the chief guest a reception commemorating the 54th National and Independence Day of Bangladesh. The event, which underscored the warm relationship between the people of Pakistan and Bangladesh, was hosted by Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan and his spouse, Roushan Naheed.

Asif remarked on the positive relations between the two nations, noting that both countries are actively pursuing increased economic, political, and cultural collaboration.

“We deeply value our relations with Bangladesh and are eager to expand our cooperation across various sectors.” He conveyed his best wishes to the Bangladeshi government and its people on their Independence and National Day.

The minister commended Bangladesh for its substantial socio-economic advancements. He highlighted the long-standing historical connections and bilateral ties between Pakistan and Bangladesh, stressing the importance of further strengthening these relations to promote enhanced development cooperation.

He emphasized the historical and cultural connections between Pakistan and Bangladesh, recognizing them as a key element in the closeness of the two friendly nations.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Muhammad Iqbal Hussain, hosting his inaugural National Day reception after recently returning from Dhaka, expressed his satisfaction with the significant attendance of dignitaries. His return followed a successful visit by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary, Ms. Amna Baloch, who led discussions between Pakistan and Bangladesh—the first in 15 years.

In his address, he conveyed his nation’s strong desire to sustain robust and amicable relations with Pakistan. He showcased the appealing environment and hospitality of his country, calling for greater collaboration and mutual understanding.

In addition to the defence minister, several federal ministers were present, including Professor Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary, Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, Moeen Wattoo, Ham Kamal, Khel Das Kohistani, Malik Rasheed Ahmad, Qaiser Ahmad Sheikh, and Muhammad Junaid Anwar.

The high commissioner reiterated Bangladesh’s commitment to maintaining strong, friendly ties with Pakistan, emphasizing the need for increased cooperation and mutual understanding.

The event welcomed members of the diplomatic community, civil society, media representatives, and the business sector. It featured Bangladeshi cultural displays, including traditional dishes such as Bengali Rasgulla and Becky fish, which contributed to the evening’s memorable atmosphere.

Muhammad Iqbal Hossain Khan expressed profound respect for the freedom fighters and participants in the 2024 mass uprising. He underscored the importance of fulfilling the aspirations of both nations through strengthened bilateral relations.

The ceremony commenced with the national anthems of both countries, followed by the chief guest, the high commissioner, and other special guests cutting a celebratory cake.
