Pakistan and Turkiye Strengthening Economic and Strategic Ties
Mian Zahid Hussain, Chairman of the National Business Group Pakistan and President of the Pakistan Businessmen and Intellectuals Forum, highlighted the increasingly strong economic and strategic relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye. He acknowledged the current administration for cultivating enhanced relations, which he noted would be advantageous for both countries.
Mian Zahid Hussain remarked that Pakistan and Turkiye share deep roots based on common history, culture, and religious beliefs. He noted that their partnership is growing on an international level through enhanced collaboration on global issues.
He conveyed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s dedication to expanding trade with Turkiye, with aspirations to elevate the existing trade volume to $5 billion in the near future, a goal that the business community wholeheartedly supports.
He further stated that numerous Turkish firms are keen to invest in Pakistan, especially in crucial sectors, including infrastructure, energy, construction, and transportation. Simultaneously, Pakistani enterprises are demonstrating interest in pursuing business opportunities with Turkiye.
Defense cooperation between the two nations is also on the rise, with joint military exercises, training initiatives, and collaborative defense equipment production, he added.
He stated that Turkiye is providing support to Pakistan through the provision of advanced warplanes, drone technology, and military education.
Mian Zahid pointed out that Pakistan and Turkiye frequently share aligned perspectives on significant international matters, such as the situations in Kashmir, Palestine, and Afghanistan. Both countries offer mutual support on matters concerning regional security and are reinforcing their cultural bonds.
Turkish television dramas have gained substantial popularity in Pakistan, and collaboration in the field of education is also increasing.
He also emphasized Turkiye’s steadfast and consistent support for Pakistan in its efforts against terrorism and regarding the Kashmir issue.
During Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent visit to Turkiye, he lauded Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, recognizing him as a visionary leader who has guided his nation towards remarkable development. PM Shehbaz underscored the significance of enhancing economic collaboration through shared projects and investments.
He emphasized potential partnerships in sectors such as energy, mining, defense, agriculture, trade, public interactions, regional and bilateral relations, and cutting-edge technologies, including artificial intelligence and cyber security.
During their meeting, both leaders voiced profound concerns about the situation in Gaza and advocated for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the urgent provision of humanitarian assistance to those impacted by the conflict.
The relationship between Pakistan and Turkiye is deepening and becoming more meaningful, encompassing areas such as commerce, defense, culture, and international affairs. Both nations are collaborating to achieve mutual prosperity and regional stability.
