Tributes Paid to Pakistan Navy on Navy Day
President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have commended the Pakistan Navy for its valor, expertise, and historical accomplishments, ranging from Operation Somnath in 1965 to its current multifaceted function in protecting maritime borders, fostering regional stability, and bolstering the nation’s maritime industry.
In his statement on Navy Day, commemorated on September 8, the President affirmed that the Pakistan Navy would steadfastly protect the country’s maritime boundaries and contribute to regional peace and stability, embodying the same dedication, bravery, and distinction that have consistently defined it.
He expressed profound gratitude to the personnel of the Pakistan Navy, recognizing them as the nation’s primary maritime defense force.
According to the President Secretariat Press Wing, the President stated, “This day allows us to fondly remember the courageous acts of our naval warriors and to acknowledge the essential role the Navy continues to fulfill in safeguarding Pakistan’s maritime territories.”
The President honored the fallen heroes, emphasizing that their sacrifices would always be remembered, and saluted the veterans whose perseverance remains a point of national honor. He added, “Their bravery reinforces the determination of the entire nation.”
President Zardari noted that the 1965 conflict serves as a reminder of the Pakistan Navy’s historic achievements in penetrating enemy waters and unsettling their sense of security. He stated that Operation Somnath became an emblem of boldness and proficiency, inspiring generations of sailors.
The President observed that the Pakistan Navy has since developed into a contemporary and versatile force.
“Presently, its duties extend beyond military readiness, encompassing the protection of sea trade routes, involvement in global peace initiatives, and disaster relief. This adaptability demonstrates the Navy’s expertise and unwavering commitment to the nation.”
Referring to Exercise Bunyan-ul-Marsoos, he noted that the Navy not only remains vigilant in protecting the coastline but also showcases its capabilities in countering any hostile or aggressive actions by adversaries.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the soldiers, officers, and personnel of the Pakistan Navy for their resolve, bravery, and proficient execution in safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders and interests in his Navy Day message.
The Prime Minister stated, “Today, on Navy Day, I commend all the soldiers, officers, and personnel associated with the Pakistan Navy, whose determination, courage, and professional performance have consistently filled the nation with pride.”
He stated that the Pakistan Navy’s history is filled with tales of valor, with Operation Somnath in the 1965 war holding a notable position.
“During this operation, the Pakistan Navy launched a decisive assault on the Indian coastal city of Dwarka, destroying its communication infrastructure.
He recalled, “This operation not only demonstrated the bravery and practical capabilities of the Pakistan Navy, but it also established the groundwork for an unwavering commitment to protect the country’s maritime integrity and sovereignty.”
He added that the triumph of this historic battle continues to strengthen the spirit of the naval forces and reminds the nation that Pakistan’s maritime borders are under vigilant watch.
“Even after the 1965 war, the Pakistan Navy’s crucial role in preserving the balance of power in the Arabian Sea serves as evidence of its professional competence and strategic planning.”
Referring to recent engagements, the Prime Minister stated that the Pakistan Navy has effectively demonstrated its preparedness and resolve, consistent with its esteemed history, conveying a clear message that the nation understands how to safeguard its maritime security at all costs.
Beyond the war front, PM Shehbaz stated that the Pakistan Navy is also essential in strengthening the maritime sector, contributing to the blue economy, port construction and development, and the welfare of the maritime community.
He stated, “The Navy’s function in safeguarding communication lines in waterways, providing humanitarian aid during disasters, and participating in international joint exercises has enhanced Pakistan’s respect and prestige worldwide.”
“Today, on Navy Day, we salute the past and present heroes of the Pakistan Navy. May Allah Almighty bless the Pakistan Navy, the armed forces, and our country with progress, prosperity, and success. Amen! Long live Pakistan Navy! Long live Pakistan!” the Prime Minister concluded.
