Significant Salary Increase for Federal Ministers Approved
President Asif Ali Zardari has officially enacted the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Salaries, Allowances, and Privileges) Amendment Ordinance, 2025, which substantially raises the monthly salaries for both federal and state ministers by 188%.
This action follows a previous increase in salaries for members of parliament earlier in the year. In March, the federal cabinet gave its nod to a considerable boost in the compensation packages for its members.
During its session on March 21, the federal cabinet sanctioned the proposal to augment the salaries of federal ministers and ministers of state, thereby approving an amendment to the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Allowances and Salaries) Act of 1975.
With the passage of this amendment, the salary for a federal minister, minister of state, or advisor will now amount to Rs519,000. Previously, a federal minister’s salary was Rs200,000, while a minister of state received Rs180,000.
Under the newly implemented ordinance, federal ministers and ministers of state are set to receive compensation on par with members of the National Assembly (MNA).
According to the ordinance, the Federal Ministers and Ministers of State (Salaries, Allowances, and Privileges) Act of 1975 has been revised, with these changes slated to take effect from January 1, 2025.
