OGDCL Announces Significant Oil and Gas Discovery in Sindh

Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) revealed a substantial oil and gas discovery on Thursday. This was found through exploratory drilling at the Faakir-1 well, which is situated within the Bitrisim Exploration License area in Sindh’s Khairpur district.

OGDCL serves as the operator of the well, possessing a 95% working interest in partnership with Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), which maintains the remaining 5% stake.

Faakir-1, an exploratory well, commenced drilling operations on December 31, 2024, and reached a final depth of 4,185 meters within the Sembar Formation. The drilling was conducted utilizing OGDCL’s internal resources, working in close coordination with their Joint Venture Partner.

Following an assessment of the wireline log data, two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) were performed in the Lower Goru Formation, specifically targeting the Massive Sand and Basal Sand layers.

Aggregate testing showed a production rate of 6.4 million standard cubic feet of gas daily (MMSCFD) along with 55 barrels of condensate per day (BPD) through a 32/64” choke.

This discovery represents a notable achievement for the Bitrisim Exploration Licence. It underscores the capacity of the Lower Goru Formation (Basal and Massive Sands) and considerably bolsters the block’s economic feasibility while also extending the license’s duration of productivity.
