Oil Tanker Explosion in Nushki: Casualties and Response

A devastating explosion involving an oil tanker in Balochistan’s Nushki district has left one person dead and at least 70 others injured. The provincial government is facilitating air transfers to ensure the injured receive optimal medical attention.

Government Support and Medical Assistance

Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sarfraz Bugti, during his visit to Civil Hospital Quetta, declared the government’s commitment to transferring those injured to Karachi for specialized medical treatment.

  • Helicopters will be provided for individuals seeking transfer.
  • A C-130 military aircraft can be arranged if necessary.

Details of the Incident

Law enforcement reported the oil tanker ignited during welding operations at a depot. In a bid to avert a more significant disaster, the truck’s driver steered the burning vehicle away from the terminal and into an open area, where it detonated. Tragically, the driver succumbed to severe burns at the scene.

According to rescue personnel, a segment of the injured, numbering around 20, are slated for relocation to private medical facilities in Karachi.

Critical Condition of the Injured

Hospital officials have stated that approximately 10 of the injured are in critical condition, having sustained burns covering 80% of their bodies.

Among those injured are a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and three other law enforcement officers who were involved in evacuating residents from the vicinity. A government spokesperson, Shahid Rind, noted that the intensity of the blaze impacted a fire brigade vehicle present at the site.

Rind further stated that emergency protocols have been initiated at medical facilities to ensure immediate treatment. A comprehensive investigation into the cause of the explosion is currently underway. Describing the incident as “tragic,” he affirmed the government’s unwavering support.
