Oil Tanker Explosion in Nushki Claims Life, Injures Dozens

In Balochistan’s Nushki district, a devastating oil tanker explosion resulted in one fatality and left at least 70 individuals injured. The provincial government has pledged to provide air transport for those requiring enhanced medical attention.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti, while visiting Civil Hospital Quetta, stated the government’s commitment to transfer the injured to Karachi for specialized treatment.

He confirmed that helicopter services would be available for individuals who preferred that mode of transport. Additionally, a C-130 military aircraft could be arranged if necessary.

According to police reports, the oil tanker ignited during welding activities at a depot. The truck driver, in an attempt to avert a larger disaster, drove the burning tanker away from the depot into an open area. It was there that the tanker exploded, resulting in the driver’s immediate death due to severe burns.

Rescue personnel have indicated that 20 of the injured will be transferred to private medical facilities in Karachi for treatment.

Hospital officials reported that 10 of the injured are in critical condition, suffering from burns covering 80% of their bodies.

A DSP and three other police officers were among those injured while evacuating residents from the vicinity. Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind noted that the intensity of the blaze impacted a fire brigade vehicle present at the location.

Rind also mentioned the activation of emergency protocols within hospitals to guarantee immediate medical care. A comprehensive investigation into the cause of the explosion is currently in progress. He described the incident as “tragic” and assured the public of the government’s complete support.
