Oil Tanker Explosion in Noshki Claims Life, Injures Dozens

In Balochistan’s Noshki district, a devastating incident occurred on Monday when an oil tanker exploded after igniting, resulting in the death of the driver and burn injuries to over 40 individuals, according to Deputy Commissioner (DC) Amjad Hussain.

The deputy commissioner stated that 26 of those critically wounded were transported to Quetta via air ambulance, a service arranged by Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti.

Law enforcement officials reported that the oil tanker, while parked at a depot in Noshki, caught fire during welding operations. In an effort to avert a greater catastrophe, the driver steered the burning vehicle away from the terminal and into an open area.

Tragically, the driver succumbed to the severe burn injuries he sustained.

The oil tanker subsequently exploded, causing injuries to more than 40 people, including a DSP and three police officers who were on-site to manage the crowd. A fire engine also sustained damage in the explosion.

A provincial government representative stated that initial reports indicated over 30 individuals suffered burns in the Noshki tragedy.

“A fire brigade vehicle was also damaged by the intense flames,” the spokesperson added. Hospitals in Quetta have declared an emergency to provide care for the injured.

The spokesperson described the incident as “tragic,” adding that investigations are currently underway to ascertain the cause of the fire.
