NHA Expedites Restoration of Karakoram Highway Following GB Floods

Following severe floods and landslides in Gilgit Baltistan (GB) triggered by cloudbursts, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has significantly increased its efforts to restore traffic on various affected sections of the Karakoram Highway (KKH), the agency announced Wednesday.

According to the NHA representative, acting on the instructions of Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, teams are working constantly, utilizing heavy machinery and ample workforce to remove obstructions from the blocked routes.

The NHA is completely focused on these ongoing operations, addressing all areas of Gilgit Baltistan impacted by rain and landslides.

At Tatta Pani, where a landslide had previously halted traffic, the route has been cleared once more. Although this section of the highway was initially reopened two days prior, it was subsequently blocked again because of new landslides. NHA teams have now re-established connectivity.

The critical segment extending from Loshi Bridge to Naran has been fully cleared and is open for vehicular traffic. Likewise, the road spanning from Lothian to Noshi Bridge is now passable for vehicles, and the Chilas Main Bazaar and Babusar Bazaar are also accessible, restoring transit for both local inhabitants and travelers.

In addition, the road linking Babusar Top to Chilas has been cleared and is currently open. The Jaglot–Skardu Road, a vital regional link, has also been cleared by NHA teams, permitting two-way traffic.

Restoration efforts are actively progressing in the Loshi Bridge area affected by the landslide, with key resources already being deployed. The NHA has guaranteed that traffic will be reinstated there as soon as possible.

To maintain effective coordination, all clearance activities are being consistently monitored from a control center located at the NHA Headquarters.

Chairman of NHA, Muhammad Sheheryar Sultan, is directly overseeing the complete clearance and rehabilitation process, ensuring up-to-the-minute updates and prompt operational responses.

The NHA spokesperson affirmed that road restoration work will proceed continuously until all blocked routes throughout the region are fully operational again.
