NHA to Impose Additional Toll Tax on Non-M-Tag Vehicles

In a move to fully implement the M-Tag system on motorways, the National Highways Authority (NHA) has revealed that a 50% surcharge on toll taxes will be levied on vehicles without M-Tags or with low balances, starting June 15, 2025.

A statement from the authority outlined the decision, citing powers granted under Section 10 (2) vii of the NHA Act-1991, amended in 2024. This measure will apply across its Motorways Network for all vehicles lacking M-Tags or possessing insufficient balance. The updated toll charges will include the 50% penalty.

The updated toll rates will be applicable to various vehicle categories traveling on important motorways such as M-1 (Islamabad–Peshawar), M-2 (Lahore–Islamabad), M-3 (Pindi Bhattian–Multan), M-4 (Faisalabad–Multan), M-5 (Multan–Sukkur), M-9 (Karachi–Hyderabad), M-14 (D.I. Khan–Hakla), and E-35 (Hassanabdal–Mansehra Expressway).

According to details, the new toll for cars on the Islamabad-Lahore motorway is now Rs1,800. For the Lahore-Abdul Hakim section on the M3, the toll is Rs1,200. The Pindi Bhattian-Multan (M4) route will now cost Rs1,600 for cars.

Similarly, the revised car toll on the Multan-Sukkur (M5) motorway is Rs1,800, while the toll for the DI Khan-Hakla (M14) route has increased to Rs1,000.

On the Hassanabdal-Manshera Expressway (E35), the car toll is now Rs450. For 2 and 3 axle trucks on the Lahore-Islamabad route, the toll is Rs7,900, and for articulated trucks, it is Rs10,200.

The NHA encourages all motorists to register for M-Tags and maintain adequate balances to avoid these extra fees.

To facilitate this, the NHA has made M-Tag registration accessible at designated motorway toll booths and authorized service locations countrywide.
