Elanga Joins Newcastle United as First Major Summer Signing

Newcastle United, a Premier League team, has officially signed Swedish international winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest. The agreement was finalized on Friday.

The transfer is valued at £52 million, with a possible £3 million in bonuses tied to performance.

As Newcastle United prepares for a demanding season that includes European competition, the 23-year-old is the first significant addition to the team during the summer transfer window.

Elanga departs Nottingham Forest following a productive two-season stint, where he participated in 82 games, contributed 21 assists, and scored 11 goals across different competitions.

During his time at the City Ground, his speed, inventiveness, and capacity to extend defenses were all vital to Forest’s offensive strategy.

Elanga conveyed his gratitude and excitement for the next phase of his career in a statement released by Newcastle United.

Elanga’s Comments

He stated, “I had two fantastic years at Nottingham Forest, where they were instrumental in my development as a player, but I am thrilled to be here now.”

“The team won a trophy the previous season and is developing something distinctive and special that I am eager to be a part of.”

Newcastle’s Perspective

Newcastle’s head coach, Eddie Howe, stated that Elanga had been a long-term target and that he was happy to have secured his services early in the pre-season.

Howe said, “I am very happy to welcome Anthony to Newcastle United. As we get ready for a significant season, he has been a primary target for us, so I am happy to have him on board.”

Newcastle is committed to building a team that can compete both domestically and in Europe after narrowly missing out on Champions League qualification the previous season.
