Newcastle United Secure Malick Thiaw in Long-Term Deal

Newcastle United has officially announced the acquisition of German defender Malick Thiaw from AC Milan, a Serie A team. The agreement is a long-term commitment, as confirmed by the Premier League club on Tuesday.

Reports from the British media indicate that Newcastle’s investment in the 24-year-old amounts to approximately USD 46.69 million in transfer fees.

Thiaw has been a significant asset for Milan, recognized as a promising defender within the league. Last season, he participated in 31 games across all competitions. However, his appearances became less consistent, and Milan concluded their Serie A campaign in eighth place.

In 2023, the defender also earned three caps for Germany. Newcastle’s manager, Eddie Howe, voiced his satisfaction with Thiaw’s arrival, emphasizing the player’s defensive capabilities and potential for future contributions to the team.

Howe stated, “We’re delighted to welcome Malick. He’s a player whose talent I’ve long appreciated, and he will undoubtedly enhance our defensive lineup.”

Thiaw represents Newcastle’s third signing during the summer transfer window, following the additions of winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, acquired on loan from Southampton.

Having secured fifth place last season and a spot in the Champions League, the Magpies are set to commence their Premier League journey with a match against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Following the finalization of his transfer, Thiaw conveyed his enthusiasm about joining Newcastle and integrating with his new colleagues and staff.

He remarked, “I’m incredibly excited to be part of this great club. I’m eager to begin training and familiarize myself with my new teammates and all the staff members.”

Thiaw Highlights Vision

“The manager shared his vision for my role within the team and the club’s overall aspirations, which I find very inspiring.”
