Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall, Windstorms Forecasted

The National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a forecast indicating the likelihood of substantial rainfall, potent windstorms, thunderstorms, and scattered hailstorms across several regions of the country, including Rawalpindi and Islamabad, on Friday and Saturday evenings.

This prediction follows a severe hailstorm that impacted the federal capital and sections of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) the previous day, resulting in considerable damage, including shattered vehicle windshields, compromised solar panels, and fractured tree limbs.

A weather advisory for the Pothohar region, encompassing Islamabad and Rawalpindi, alongside upper and central Punjab, cautions that intense weather conditions could affect infrastructure integrity, impede transportation systems, and negatively influence agricultural operations from the evening of April 18 through April 19, 2025.

The advisory further warned that robust winds and intense rainfall might lead to the uprooting of trees, potentially triggering temporary electricity disruptions. Windstorms, accompanied by dust and hail, could inflict damage on vulnerable buildings, rooftops, vehicles, and electrical grids.

Hailstorms present a hazard to both crops and outdoor facilities, notably those incorporating glass components. Reduced visibility resulting from rain and dust may elevate the incidence of traffic mishaps.

The NEOC has recommended that residents implement safety measures, secure any unsecured items, and avoid unnecessary journeys during episodes of severe weather.
