ACC President to Chair AGM in Dhaka Amid Objections
The President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), Mohsin Naqvi, has departed for Dhaka to lead the Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for July 24.
Naqvi departed from Allama Iqbal International Airport on Tuesday night, according to sources.
Upon arrival in Dhaka, Naqvi will preside over the AGM, marking the first such event in Bangladesh in recent years. This occurs despite expressed opposition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and Oman Cricket regarding the chosen location.
Despite the reservations from some members, the ACC, under the leadership of Mohsin Naqvi, upheld Dhaka as the venue. The scheduling aligns with the ongoing three-match series between Pakistan and Bangladesh, ensuring the presence of several ACC representatives in the city during the meeting.
Earlier in July, it was reported that the council had extended a formal invitation to all member nations, providing a 15-day notice, and included the option for virtual attendance.
An ACC source noted, “Online meetings have become standard practice globally, with the ACC and ICC having conducted several in the past.”
This development follows reports from last month that the schedule for the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025 was expected to be revealed in July.
Reports also suggest that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a leading candidate to host the tournament because of disagreements between the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the BCCI.
Indian media outlets have indicated that, if arrangements proceed as planned, the tournament is anticipated to commence in the second week of September, with September 10 being considered as a possible start date.
