Mustafizur Rahman Returns to Cricket in Bangladesh A Squad
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) revealed on Saturday that fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman has been selected for the 15-member Bangladesh A team for the initial two one-day games against New Zealand A. This move is designed to prepare him for a comeback to international play.
Mustafizur is making his return to competitive cricket after receiving a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injection on March 12 and subsequently resting.
PRP Treatment Explained
PRP treatment involves injecting a concentration of the patient’s own platelets into an injured area. This aims to stimulate faster healing, decrease inflammation, and reduce discomfort.
The left-arm bowler played for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Super League stage of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), which is Bangladesh’s primary List A competition. He has participated in three matches and secured five wickets thus far.
“He (Mustafizur) has been absent from cricket for some time. Therefore, we’ve included him in the A team to get him ready for upcoming international matches,” stated BCB chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain.
The Bangladesh A squad includes a combination of experienced players and promising new talents. Along with Mustafizur, seasoned players such as Anamul Haque Bijoy, Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan, and Mosaddek Hossain Saikat have been named in the squad.
“We anticipate a highly competitive series and have included experienced players like Mossadek and Sohan to ensure they remain in consideration,” he added.
While the BCB hasn’t officially announced the captain, it is understood that Quazi Nurul Hasan Sohan is expected to lead the team due to his experience.
New Zealand A is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on May 1 for a tour that includes three one-day matches and two four-day games, which will be held in Sylhet and Dhaka.
The one-day series will begin on May 5 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium (SICS), with the second and third games scheduled for May 7 and May 10, respectively.
After the limited-overs matches, the teams will switch to red-ball cricket, with the first four-day match taking place from May 14-17 in Sylhet.
The series will conclude with the second four-day match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka from May 21-24.
