Naqvi to Head ACC AGM in Dhaka on July 24
DHAKA: Mohsin Naqvi, President of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC), was present at a dinner hosted by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Wednesday. This gathering occurred before the continental cricketing body’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for July 24.
The BCB’s dinner was in honor of ACC President Naqvi and other council members, as Bangladesh prepares to host this significant meeting after a long interval.
During the dinner, Naqvi engaged with council members, presenting them with commemorative gifts.
Furthermore, he had discussions with the national men’s cricket team, currently in Bangladesh for a three-match T20I series, and had an in-depth conversation with white-ball head coach Mike Hesson.
Mohsin Naqvi is in Dhaka to preside over the ACC’s AGM. The meeting will proceed as planned, despite reported objections from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), and Oman Cricket regarding the chosen location.
Despite these concerns, the ACC, under Mohsin Naqvi’s leadership, has upheld Dhaka as the venue. This decision aligns with the ongoing series between Pakistan and Bangladesh, ensuring the presence of numerous council representatives in the city.
According to recent reports in Indian media, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla is expected to participate in the ACC AGM virtually, marking a notable shift in the cricket board’s attitude.
The meeting will also address the fate of the ACC Men’s Asia Cup 2025, slated for September.
The tournament’s future is uncertain due to political tensions and internal dynamics. Sources suggest the BCCI is actively trying to disrupt the event, potentially costing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over PKR 1.25 billion in potential income.
These developments are also viewed by some as attempts to weaken the position of Mohsin Naqvi, who is both the PCB Chairman and the current President of the ACC.
