Meeting Scheduled to Discuss Revival of Departmental Sports
LAHORE: A meeting has been convened by the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination (IPC) this Thursday in Islamabad to address the potential reinstatement of departmental sports across the nation.
According to an official communication from the ministry, this assembly was mandated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and invitations have been extended to all departmental heads and sports federation representatives.
The significant meeting is slated to occur at the Pakistan Secretariat in Islamabad on Thursday morning, with the option for virtual participation also available.
“As per the Prime Minister’s instruction, a meeting regarding the comeback of Departmental Sports will take place. The Secretary of the Ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination will preside over the session,” the ministry clarified.
Further details indicate that the meeting will focus on determining the methodology for reviving departmental sports activities.
It is important to note that departmental sports have been suspended nationwide since September 2021.
This decision had a detrimental impact on athletes throughout the country, as numerous individuals faced job losses due to departmental closures.
Consequently, Prime Minister Shehbaz reassessed the situation in October 2022 and signaled the potential restoration of departmental sports in the country.
