Poirier Set for Showdown, Holloway Issues Warning
New Orleans: Ahead of their highly anticipated clash this Saturday at UFC 318, Max Holloway has sent a message to Dustin Poirier, declaring it ‘his last dance’.
Holloway of Hawaii will be putting his symbolic BMF title on the line at the King Centre. Poirier, a hometown favorite, aims to conclude his impressive career with a victory.
Poirier, the American lightweight contender, boasts an impressive record of 21 wins in 31 UFC fights and is considered among the sport’s elite.
Despite his accomplishments, Poirier has yet to secure an undisputed title and this will be his third encounter with Holloway.
Having won their previous two encounters, Poirier exudes confidence. He has expressed a desire to retire from the sport, acknowledging Max as both a legend and a respected individual.
“It feels surreal, but the timing is right. I prefer to leave on my own terms rather than be forced out by the sport,” Poirier stated. “We’ve met at different stages of our careers, and each fight has been unique. It’s exciting. Max is a legend, a hall of famer, and a good person, so facing him in my potential last fight feels fitting.”
Meanwhile, Holloway is embarking on a new chapter, setting his sights on a permanent move to the lightweight division after his featherweight triumph against Ilia Topuria in October.
Holloway cautioned Dustin, suggesting this could be the end of his journey.
“It’s unfortunate that it has to be Dustin, but this is his final act, and I’m here to disrupt his plans,” Holloway remarked.
