Mariners on Verge of First ALCS Berth Since 2001

DETROIT: The Seattle Mariners are just one victory away from securing their first American League Championship Series (ALCS) appearance in 23 years, following an 8-4 triumph over the Detroit Tigers in Game 3 of the AL Division Series (ALDS) at Comerica Park on Tuesday.

Following a rain delay that lasted nearly three hours, Mariners pitcher Logan Gilbert displayed remarkable composure, recording seven strikeouts across six solid innings. He conceded only one run on four hits and didn’t walk any batters.

J.P. Crawford, Eugenio Suárez, and Cal Raleigh each contributed home runs for Seattle, giving them a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-five series.

Mariners skipper Dan Wilson lauded Gilbert’s excellent performance, deeming it a crucial contribution.

“That was classic Logan out there,” Wilson commented. “He was aggressive in the strike zone, achieved favorable counts, and effectively utilized his split and slider. His ability to perform at that level after such a lengthy rain delay is invaluable. He stepped up when we needed him tonight, without a doubt.”

Seattle seized the initiative in the third inning when an RBI single from Randy Arozarena, coupled with a fielding error, resulted in two runs. In the fourth inning, Suárez added a solo home run, and Raleigh followed with an RBI single, extending the lead to 4-0.

Crawford’s home run in the sixth inning and Raleigh’s two-run shot in the ninth ultimately secured the victory for the Mariners.

Detroit’s Jack Flaherty (0-1) struggled on the mound, surrendering four runs (three earned) in 3 1/3 innings. Despite managing to score three runs in the ninth, the Tigers, who are currently on a home losing streak dating back to September 6, were unable to complete a comeback.

The Mariners will aim to wrap up the series and conclude their 23-year ALCS drought in Game 4 on Wednesday in Detroit.
