Premier League Clubs Eye Barcelona Goalkeeper Ter Stegen

Several Premier League teams, including Manchester United and Newcastle United, have reportedly contacted Barcelona to inquire about acquiring goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen during the upcoming January transfer window.

The German international has been out of action since July due to a back injury but is projected to be fully fit by the close of November.

Ter Stegen’s potential return to the field coincides with growing uncertainty surrounding his position at Barcelona.

Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation remains in flux under their new coach, Ruben Amorim, while Newcastle seeks to bolster their squad with an experienced option to support their primary goalkeeper, Nick Pope.

Both clubs apparently see the 33-year-old as a reliable goalkeeper capable of offering stability and leadership.

Barcelona recently signed Joan Garcia as their new first-choice goalkeeper. However, he is currently injured but is expected back in action within a month. Meanwhile, Wojciech Szczesny has been filling the role in Garcia’s absence.

Ter Stegen’s current agreement with Barcelona extends until 2028; however, his long-term prospects at the Nou Camp appear questionable.

The 33-year-old is aware that limited playing time could negatively impact his chances of being selected for Germany’s World Cup squad.

Sources suggest that considerable interest in the goalkeeper spans across Europe. Manchester United, Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur, and AS Monaco are all closely tracking his status. Most clubs are reportedly considering a loan arrangement in January, potentially with an option to make the transfer permanent.

It is worth noting that Monaco showed interest in Ter Stegen during the summer transfer window, but the player declined the offer. Barcelona is unlikely to consider any offers unless Ter Stegen himself initiates a request for a transfer.
