Reijnders Set to Finalize Five-Year Deal with City

Manchester City is reportedly on the verge of securing Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, a Serie A club. The anticipated agreement spans five years, as reported by international media outlets on Wednesday, positioning Reijnders for the Club World Cup.

Sources indicate ongoing discussions between Reijnders and AC Milan, the team he initially joined in 2023, with an extension through 2030 formalized in March.

During his tenure with the Italian side, the midfielder participated in 104 games, contributing to their Italian Supercup victory.

Reijnders conveyed to the international press his eagerness to join Pep Guardiola’s squad, stating that conversations with the club were underway.

Statements from Reijnders:
  • “Negotiations between the clubs are progressing. I’m in a phase of waiting to see how things unfold,” Reijnders commented.
  • “The Premier League represents a high level of competition that many aspire to from a young age. As of now, I haven’t directly communicated with coach Pep Guardiola.”

The 26-year-old is expected to commit to a five-year contract, valued at approximately 55 million Euros, at the Etihad Stadium after agreeing to individual terms with City.

Finalization of the deal hinges on a successful medical evaluation and may involve supplementary payments based on the fulfillment of specific performance-related conditions.

City is aiming to finalize Reijnders’ transfer before the Club World Cup commences on June 14.

This acquisition is particularly timely, as Mateo Kovacic will be absent from the 32-team tournament in the United States due to Achilles surgery. Reijnders’s inclusion is expected to fill this void.

Furthermore, midfielder Kevin de Bruyne is also unlikely to participate in the tournament, with a potential transfer to Serie A champions Napoli gaining momentum.
