Lookman Requests Transfer from Atalanta Following Disagreement
Striker Ademola Lookman has officially requested a transfer from Atalanta, citing dissatisfaction with his treatment at the Italian club, according to recent reports.
Lookman was a key player for Atalanta last season, netting 15 goals in Serie A, making him the second-highest scorer. Media outlets in Italy suggest that the former player for Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City is being considered for a transfer to Inter Milan.
Atalanta has not yet issued a statement regarding the matter.
Lookman, who joined Atalanta in 2022 on a four-year deal, communicated on social media that he had an understanding with the club’s management that he would be permitted to leave if a suitable opportunity arose.
“Despite receiving an offer that aligns with our prior discussions, the club is unfortunately preventing the move for reasons unknown to me,” Lookman stated.
“After repeated unfulfilled promises and what I perceive as unfair treatment towards me, both personally and professionally, I feel compelled to speak out… I can confirm that I have submitted a formal transfer request.”
The Nigeria international, who was born in England, expressed in February that he had faced challenging times at the Italian club. This followed remarks from former coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who described him as ‘one of the worst penalty takers’ after a missed penalty in a match that resulted in their Champions League elimination.
Lookman described Gasperini’s comments as ‘highly disrespectful’ and hurtful.
Gasperini later clarified his statement, indicating that he did not intend to offend Lookman.
Atalanta, who finished third last season, is scheduled to commence their Serie A campaign at home against Pisa on August 24.
