Liverpool Set to Sign Alexander Isak in Record Deal
Liverpool has reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United to acquire Alexander Isak for a British record fee of £125 million, as announced on Monday. The contract is expected to be a long-term commitment.
Sources indicate the overall value of the agreement, including potential add-ons, could reach £130 million.
Earlier in the month, Liverpool’s initial offer of £110 million plus additional incentives for the Swedish international was turned down by Newcastle, who were actively seeking a striker.
Newcastle subsequently agreed to the transfer following the acquisition of center-forward Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart.
Isak is expected to undergo a medical examination before the transfer window closes at 7 p.m. BST on Monday.
Liverpool recently broke their club record with the signing of Florian Wirtz from Germany for an initial £100 million, with potential add-ons of £16 million.
Isak has been absent from Newcastle’s lineup this season and has been training separately amid speculation linking him to Liverpool. He also did not participate in the team’s pre-season tour.
Earlier this month, the 25-year-old issued a statement implying Newcastle had not kept their commitments.
He expressed on Instagram, “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationship can’t continue. A change of scenery is beneficial for everyone involved, not just me.”
Alexander Isak’s transfer is set to become the most expensive in Premier League history, surpassing Chelsea’s acquisition of Moisés Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion for £115 million in the summer of 2023.
The Swedish player, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £60 million, recorded 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season.
