Tragic Loss: Jota and Brother Die in Car Crash

Liverpool’s preseason training commenced on Tuesday, just five days after the sorrowful demise of their Portuguese forward, Diogo Jota.

Jota and his sibling, Andre Silva, tragically perished in a devastating car accident near Zamora, located in northwestern Spain, last Thursday. It is believed that the brothers were en route to the UK for Liverpool’s preseason activities.

Reports indicate that the deadly incident took place in the early hours when their vehicle veered off the road and erupted into flames.

Liverpool’s preseason training, initially planned for last Friday, was postponed as a mark of respect for Jota. Arne Slot, along with numerous Liverpool players, both past and present, and the friends and relatives of the late Jota, attended his brother’s funeral in Gondomar, Portugal, on Saturday.

Upon their arrival at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, Liverpool players were met with a multitude of floral tributes.

The Premier League team is scheduled to play their first friendly against Preston North End on July 13 to begin the season; however, confirmation of the match is pending.

In recent days, an outpouring of tributes has been received from former colleagues, clubs, national figures, and supporters.

Liverpool’s captain, Virgil van Dijk, expressed his devastation, stating he was in “Absolutely devastated and in total disbelief.”

Forward Mohamed Salah remarked on Friday that ‘it is going to be extremely difficult to accept Jota’s absence’.

Salah further added, “Until yesterday, I never thought there would be something that would frighten me of going back to Liverpool after the break. Teammates come and go but not like this,”

“It’s going to be extremely difficult to accept that Diogo won’t be there when we go back.”
