Karachi Experiences Light Drizzle, Bringing Relief from Heat

On Sunday, a refreshing change in weather occurred as light showers fell across different parts of Karachi, offering a break from the recent high temperatures.

Areas such as Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Bahadurabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Saddar, and Malir received gentle rainfall, enhancing the overall pleasant environment.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated that Karachi’s skies will remain overcast, with the possibility of additional light rain later in the day. The expected high temperature is approximately 35°C.

Winds are coming from the west at 16 km/h, and humidity is at 80%, contributing to a humid feel despite the light rain.

Residents of Karachi, who had been experiencing intense heat in recent days, welcomed the respite as the city saw rainfall over the past few days and cloud cover providing shade from the sun for most of the day.

Earlier, the PMD’s pre-monsoon advisory mentioned that moist air currents from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea were starting to move into the country, signaling the start of the monsoon season. Strong winds and thunderstorms with rainfall are anticipated in Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad until June 24.

The PMD has also predicted pre-monsoon rainfall in various other regions of the country, interspersed with occasional breaks, which will help reduce the severe heatwave impacting several areas.

This anticipated period of wet weather may include dust storms, rain accompanied by wind, and thunderstorms, with the possibility of substantial rainfall and hailstorms in some isolated locations.

The forecast cautioned that strong winds and lightning could damage vulnerable infrastructure like utility poles, trees, solar panels, and parked vehicles, particularly in the upper and central parts of the country, including Islamabad. The current intense heatwave affecting many regions is likely to lessen during this period.

There’s also a potential for urban flooding in low-lying areas of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Islamabad during periods of heavy rainfall. Farmers are advised to adjust their agricultural activities based on the weather predictions.
