Colwill Undergoes ACL Surgery Following Injury

Chelsea defender Levi Colwill successfully underwent surgery on Thursday to repair an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury sustained during a training session earlier in the week. The 22-year-old is expected to be sidelined for a significant portion of the upcoming season.

The Premier League club has indicated that the typical recovery period for an ACL injury, before a player can resume playing, ranges from six to nine months.

In their official announcement, the club confirmed the successful completion of the player’s surgery.

“Levi Colwill, a defender, had successful surgery today for an anterior cruciate ligament injury. This week, the 22-year-old had returned to Cobham for preseason before unfortunately suffering the injury during training, ” Chelsea said in a statement.

Chelsea also stated that initial medical evaluations verified the necessity of surgery for his recovery, and the club’s medical staff will assist him throughout the rehabilitation process.

“Medical assessments determined that surgery was the necessary course of action. Levi will now commence his recovery, with the club’s medical department at Cobham providing support during his rehabilitation phase,” the club added.

In the previous season, the defender played in 43 games for Chelsea across all competitions, playing a key role in the team’s victory at the Club World Cup in July. The team finished fourth in the Premier League the previous season.

Chelsea will begin their 2025-26 Premier League season on August 17 against Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.
