Leclerc Emphasizes Importance of 2026 Season Amidst F1 Regulation Changes
SILVERSTONE: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc conveyed his strong desire on Saturday to aid in restoring the celebrated Italian team to its former glory in Formula One, particularly after a trying start to the 2025 season.
Leclerc stressed that Ferrari’s rich history necessitates more than just occasional podium appearances. The 27-year-old Monegasque, currently holding fifth place in the driver standings with 119 points, has achieved podium finishes in three of the past four races, signaling a potential revival for both him and the team.
Despite this recent advancement, Ferrari remains considerably behind McLaren in the constructors’ championship, with a deficit of 217 points.
“I am far from content with the existing circumstances, and I am fully committed to doing everything within my power to improve them,” Leclerc stated.
“My motivation stems from the ambition to elevate this iconic team back to the pinnacle of success and secure the world championship together.”
Leclerc also acknowledged the positive impact of his new teammate, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who brings a valuable external perspective to Ferrari.
While Leclerc, whose latest triumph occurred at the 2024 United States Grand Prix, remains grounded regarding his title aspirations for this year, he maintains a strong focus on the long-term objectives.
He underscored the significance of the 2026 season, which will introduce new technical regulations throughout Formula One.
“The upcoming year holds immense importance for the team due to the updated regulations. A strong start would bode well for the years ahead, whereas a less favorable beginning would make the ascent back to the top significantly more challenging,” he elaborated.
