Mullojonov Faces Suspension After Positive Test

Lazizbek Mullojonov, the reigning heavyweight boxing champion from the Paris Olympics, has been temporarily suspended following a positive drug test, as confirmed by the World Boxing Federation (WBF) on Tuesday.

Mullojonov’s sample revealed the presence of methasterone, a synthetic anabolic steroid known for its ability to accelerate muscle growth and enhance both strength and power.

The International Testing Agency (ITA) has communicated the findings to the athlete, advising him of his right to request an examination of his B-sample.

“The athlete has been informed of the case and has the right to request the analysis of the B-sample,” the ITA stated.

The ITA elaborated that a matching result between the B-sample and the initial A-sample would solidify the case, leading to confirmation of an anti-doping rule infringement.

Should Mullojonov waive the B-sample analysis, the case will proceed, and an anti-doping rule violation will be officially confirmed.

The ITA has assured that Mullojonov will have a fair opportunity to present his defense before any final decision is announced.

“The athlete will have the opportunity to present his explanations for the result,” the agency stated.

It is important to note that, in accordance with the World Anti-Doping Code, the athlete will remain under suspension during the proceedings.

Mullojonov’s career highlights include a victory at the 2023 IBA World Boxing Championships and a gold medal in the super heavyweight division in 2022. His most recent achievement was securing a gold medal in the heavyweight (92kg) category at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Lazizbek Mullojonov, a celebrated boxer hailing from Uzbekistan, has attained considerable achievements in both amateur and professional circuits.
