Lahore to Introduce Electric Trams for Public Transport
Following the effective launch of electric buses, Lahore is preparing to incorporate electric trams into its public transportation infrastructure, according to an official representative from the Orange Line. An order has been placed with a Chinese manufacturer for these trams, representing a further step toward a more sustainable and environmentally conscious urban transportation network.
The representative stated that these electric trams possess high efficiency, with the ability to travel approximately 25 to 27 kilometers with only a 10-minute charge. Each tram will be composed of three sections and can accommodate around 250 commuters simultaneously.
“Currently, the assembly of the initial set of three-section trams is in progress at the Ali Town Depot,” the representative stated.
The electric tram service will initially commence as a trial initiative, potentially following a route from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura.
“Initially, the tram will be tested through a pilot program,” the representative explained. “There is a proposal to provide the service without charge during this initial period. Subject to a successful trial, a fare system will be established for routine services.”
