LAHORE – Torrential rainfall in Lahore on Wednesday severely disrupted flight operations at Allama Iqbal International Airport, causing delays to both domestic and international flights.
According to airport officials, the heavy downpour that began early in the morning led to reduced visibility and halted ground operations temporarily. As a result, several scheduled flights faced significant delays, and passengers experienced extended waiting times.
A private airline’s flight 401 to Karachi departed after a delay of over one hour, while another Karachi-bound flight took off after a 44-minute delay.
Flight 629 to Doha, operated by a foreign carrier, faced a 30-minute delay, while flight 625 to Dubai experienced similar delays. Additionally, another Dubai-bound private airline service was held back by 44 minutes.
The most affected service, flight 745 to Istanbul, had not departed by the time of this report due to continued operational challenges.
Earlier in the day, airport operations were temporarily suspended as rainfall intensity peaked, impacting both arrival and departure schedules. However, flights gradually resumed as weather conditions slightly improved later in the day.
Passengers are strongly advised to stay in contact with their respective airlines for real-time updates on flight schedules and to avoid unnecessary delays at the airport.
The ongoing monsoon season continues to pose a challenge to air travel in Lahore, highlighting the need for timely weather advisories and contingency measures for airport operations.
