Mbappe Returns to Real Madrid Training After Illness
PALM BEACH GARDENS: Following a recovery from acute gastroenteritis, Kylian Mbappe rejoined his Real Madrid teammates in training on Wednesday.
Mbappe was hospitalized in the Miami area last week due to the illness.
A source within the club indicated at the beginning of the FIFA Club World Cup that Mbappe was unlikely to participate in any of the group stage matches.
The French forward was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday and released on Thursday, having been isolated from his teammates the previous Tuesday.
Since his discharge, the player has been working individually in the gym to regain his fitness.
During his recovery, Mbappe was absent from Real Madrid’s initial two games, which included a 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal and a 3-1 victory over Pachuca.
Real Madrid currently leads Group H with four points, holding a goal difference advantage over RB Salzburg. Al-Hilal remains in contention for the knockout phase with two points.
Madrid is scheduled to play their crucial Group H match against RB Salzburg at the Club World Cup on Thursday.
Even if Mbappe achieves full fitness, it is improbable that he will be in the starting lineup, reportedly having lost approximately 4-5 kilograms during his illness.
Gonzalo Garcia is anticipated to play in Mbappe’s position, given his impressive performance in the first two games.
Mbappe, who has scored 43 goals for Madrid across all competitions, hopes to increase his goal tally at the Club World Cup.
