The Karachi Water and Sewerage Services Improvement Project (KWSSIP) has intensified its efforts on the K-IV pipeline, aiming to complete the crucial infrastructure project within the set timeline. Teams are now working to install two major pipes daily to expedite the process. Officials from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) confirmed that pipeline installation is actively progressing along a shared 2.7-kilometer route with the BRT Red Line. Despite facing technical challenges and safety considerations, the project has successfully entered its final stages.

Ahmed Ali Siddiqui, CEO of KW&SC, extended an apology to residents, shopkeepers, commuters, and particularly students in the affected areas for any disruptions caused by the ongoing excavation work. He assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the project’s timely completion. The excavation is being conducted at a depth of six meters in an area already experiencing congestion due to BRT construction, as well as the presence of underground KW&SC water and sewerage lines, SSGC pressure lines, and K-Electric cables. In certain sections, only five feet of operational space is available, necessitating the use of advanced and carefully managed excavation techniques to protect both the public and existing utilities.

While work experienced a temporary halt in November due to two separate utility damage incidents, the team has since regained momentum. Officials reported that 36 pipes have been successfully laid to date. Siddiqui also highlighted the significant attention the project has received from Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, especially following his recent site visit, emphasizing that the timely and high-quality completion of the K-IV project remains a paramount priority for the organization.

The K-IV project, a key infrastructure initiative by the Sindh government and KW&SC, is designed to augment Karachi’s water supply by an additional 260 million gallons per day. Authorities are committed to transparency and are providing regular progress updates through the corporation’s official website and social media channels.
