KTBA Urges FBR to Fix IRIS Portal Issues for Tax Filers
The Karachi Tax Bar Association (KTBA) has appealed to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to resolve technical obstacles within the IRIS portal. This request aims to help taxpayers meet the return filing deadline without hindrances.
In a formal communication to the FBR Chairman, the KTBA articulated several functional difficulties preventing both taxpayers and tax experts from submitting their returns promptly.
The association voiced concerns regarding the late release of tax return forms on the IRIS portal, asserting that this delay contravenes Rule 34A of the Income Tax Rules, 2002. They emphasized that this has significantly shortened the filing timeframe as stipulated under Section 118 of the Income Tax Ordinance, 2001.
The KTBA elaborated on numerous technical deficiencies affecting the system, including:
- Inaccurate tax calculations
- Frequent failures during the uploading process
- Legal inconsistencies
- Inaccurate data pre-populated from the Management Information System
