CM Gandapur Seeks Report on Student Death Allegations

Following the reported death of a fifth-grade student allegedly due to corporal punishment inflicted by a private school principal in Jamrud, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has requested a comprehensive report on the situation.

The incident reportedly occurred during the school’s morning assembly as a result of a minor disagreement. Law enforcement has documented the case, and an investigation is currently underway.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Private School Regulatory Authority has directed all private educational institutions to rigorously enforce the existing prohibition against corporal punishment within their premises.

The Chief Minister has instructed the regulatory authority to perform a neutral and open investigation and provide a report. He affirmed that the government will take decisive action against the responsible individual if the claims are substantiated.

Gandapur voiced his strong disapproval of the event, emphasizing that violence directed at children within educational settings constitutes a serious violation of the law, and those implicated deserve no mercy.

He further emphasized the necessity of implementing effective measures to avert similar episodes of violence against children in schools, promising that the victim’s family will receive justice.

The KPK private schools regulatory authority, through formal correspondence, has reminded private school administrators that corporal punishment is forbidden and directed them to guarantee adherence to this restriction.

The letter further stated that individuals found culpable may be subject to imprisonment for up to six months or a monetary penalty of 50,000 rupees.

In addition, schools are mandated to offer awareness campaigns and training programs addressing this issue.
