The Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, has once again criticized the provincial government’s inability to restore peace in the Kurram district. Speaking at an event in Peshawar, Kundi expressed frustration over the lack of control the provincial authorities have over the region.

Failure to Establish Control in Kurram

Kundi highlighted the government’s failure to maintain law and order over a 25-kilometer stretch of road in Kurram. Despite public statements made by the provincial leadership, the region continues to face significant security challenges. Kundi pointed out that the provincial government’s rhetoric on security and peace seems hollow, as the situation on the ground remains unstable.

Political Leadership Under Scrutiny

The Governor also questioned the commitment of the provincial leadership to peace, pointing out the involvement of the Chief Minister in the controversial events of May 9. Kundi’s comments cast doubt on the sincerity of the provincial government in addressing Kurram’s security issues.

Critical Remarks on Negotiations and Political Deals

Kundi did not shy away from criticizing political negotiations either. He remarked that those who once criticized others for seeking “NROs” (National Reconciliation Ordinance) were now asking for one themselves. He stressed that the legal system should be the authority to decide on these matters, and no individual, including the founder of PTI, is beyond accountability.

Water Distribution and Security Cooperation

Kundi also addressed the issue of water distribution for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, expressing concern that the province has not yet received its fair share. He emphasized that while other provinces are at odds over water rights, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to be sidelined.

Furthermore, Kundi discussed the concept of a “Green Revolution” to counter terrorism in the province. During a recent meeting with the Army Chief, the Governor reiterated the importance of the National Action Plan and the collective effort to eradicate terrorism. He assured that the Army Chief had committed to maintaining peace in the province and that all political parties in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were united in this goal.
