he Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has made a significant decision to terminate employees who were hired during the tenure of the caretaker government. The move comes as part of an effort to address irregularities in government appointments. A bill titled the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Employees Bill 2025 has been introduced to oversee these dismissals, specifically targeting employees recruited between January 22, 2023, and February 29, 2024.

The bill aims to eliminate the jobs of individuals hired outside the standard recruitment processes, which includes jobs not obtained through the KP Public Service Commission. Certain groups, including those hired under minority or children’s quotas, will be exempt from the terminations. A seven-member committee, led by the Secretary Establishment, has been appointed to manage the process and ensure that no legal obstacles disrupt the plan.

This move follows an inquiry that revealed 566 positions created during the caretaker government’s tenure were deemed illegal, leading to a public financial loss of approximately PKR 480 million annually. The bill also aims to set a precedent that discourages misuse of authority in hiring practices, as the caretaker government’s decisions have raised significant concerns about their legitimacy.

The KP government has indicated that further disciplinary actions will be enforced to ensure that any irregularities are promptly addressed. This also follows a broader initiative to improve efficiency and transparency within the provincial administration.
