Government Facilitates Arbaeen Pilgrims with Enhanced Travel Measures

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that the government is undertaking all essential steps to aid pilgrims journeying to Iran and Iraq for Arbaeen.

Addressing the National Assembly, the Defence Minister highlighted the paramount importance of pilgrim safety and ease. He affirmed that directives have been issued to pertinent departments to guarantee seamless arrangements throughout the pilgrimage.

He informed the assembly that due to substantial security threats, notably potential terrorist acts against pilgrim processions, the government has placed restrictions on ground transportation along the 800 km route originating from Quetta.

To counter these dangers, the federal government has given the Balochistan government permission to run direct flights from Quetta. This will enable pilgrims to reach their destinations safely by air.

The minister communicated to the House that one flight has already been initiated, and the government is pushing for an increase in flight frequency—aiming for either two flights per day or at least one consistent service—to effectively meet the demand.

He mentioned that arrangements have been made for onward transit from airports located in Iran and Iraq to the locations the pilgrims plan to visit.

He further stated that announcements were issued over the last few days to encourage private airlines to offer services on this route, with all licensed private airlines now authorized to operate flights.

Approval has also been granted for chartered flights to optimize the total number of pilgrims who can journey safely.

Khawaja Asif noted that these actions seek to provide the greatest possible comfort while avoiding the security risks associated with road travel.

He encouraged prospective operators and the aviation sector to fully utilize the permissions granted.

The minister further added that during the recent visit of the Iranian President to Pakistan, this matter was also talked about, and Iran approved an extra flight to help facilitate the travel of Pakistani pilgrims.

“I want to reassure the House and the citizens of Pakistan that the government is fully dedicated to guaranteeing secure, comfortable, and punctual transport for all Arbaeen pilgrims,” he concluded.
