Karachi Gears Up for Eid: Cattle Market Opens at Northern Bypass

Preparations for Eid ul Adha are in full swing, with the main cattle market at the Northern Bypass now open. Mayor Murtaza Wahab and Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad inaugurated the market.

Speaking at the opening on Saturday, Mayor Wahab stated that the Northern Bypass cattle market is the largest in Asia. He also assured the public that security and other potential issues at the market would be addressed.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the cattle market’s importance as a social event for Karachi. He mentioned that unauthorized cattle markets across the city would not be permitted this year. The administration will collect taxes from markets established at designated locations.

The administration anticipates over 300,000 animals will be traded at the Northern Bypass cattle market this year.

The opening of the cattle market signifies the beginning of Eid ul Adha festivities. This event has significant social and economic importance for the city. The market becomes a popular destination for families and young people.

Last year, the Karachi administration designated 22 locations for sacrificial animal markets. The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) oversaw eight major cattle markets, while town municipal corporations (TMCs) managed 12. Two temporary animal markets were permitted in cantonment areas.
