Teenager and Suspected Robber Killed in Karachi Gunfight

Tragedy struck in Karachi’s Orangi Town on Wednesday night when a 14-year-old boy and a suspected robber were fatally wounded during a shootout between alleged criminals and a local resident.

The young victim, identified as Hussain, lost his life during an attempted street robbery in the Pakistan Bazaar police station’s jurisdiction within Orangi Town.

Law enforcement officials reported that two individuals on a motorcycle were attempting to rob a passerby when Shahenshah Hasan, a resident with a licensed firearm, intervened and opened fire on the suspected robbers.

One of the suspects died on the spot, while the other managed to escape with injuries. Sadly, during the exchange of gunfire, young Hussain, the son of a man named Ali, was also struck and killed.

Authorities have recovered a firearm and ammunition from the deceased suspect. The resident’s licensed pistol has been taken into custody for forensic examination. Efforts to identify the suspect are ongoing, and the investigation is still in progress.

According to family members, the deadly exchange of gunfire occurred near a mosque in the Gulshan-e-Bihar area.

Speaking to reporters, the victim’s maternal uncle recounted that robbers tried to snatch Hussain’s mobile device. As Hussain attempted to stop the fleeing robber, the assailant allegedly dragged him before firing nine bullets.

The family quickly transported Hussain to a private medical facility near KDA Chowrangi, but relatives stated that he had already died from his injuries while en route.

The deceased was the third of four siblings. His uncle shared that Hussain was a Hafiz-e-Quran and was studying to become an Aalim.

The bereaved family is pleading with the government to deliver justice. “We appeal to the government to provide us with justice,” the victim’s uncle implored. Hussain’s brother also expressed his grief, calling for justice for his younger brother’s death.

The incident has plunged the family and the community into mourning. Police have not yet released details of their investigation into the robbery and the fatal shooting.

In a separate incident, a 50-year-old man named Irfan, who was injured while resisting a robbery attempt on Tuesday in the Korangi area near Noor-ul-Islam Masjid, succumbed to his injuries during treatment at a medical facility on Wednesday.

Reports indicate that motorcycle-riding robbers shot Irfan during a mugging attempt when he resisted. He was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but he died during treatment.

Zaman Town SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi stated that a case was initially registered for attempted murder. However, following Irfan’s death, the charges will be elevated to include murder. Police have affirmed that the search for the suspects is ongoing using technological methods.

These fatalities bring the total number of people killed in Karachi due to robbers’ gunfire in 2024 to 33.
