Karachi Receives Heavy Rainfall, Weather Turns Pleasant
Karachi residents experienced substantial rainfall on Tuesday, resulting in a welcome change in the weather following a period of high humidity. Showers were widespread, encompassing areas such as II Chunrigar Road, Sharea Faisal, and Airport Road.
Weather expert Jawad Memon indicated that intermittent rain is anticipated to continue throughout the day. He stated, “A monsoon system is currently situated in the Arabian Sea. Due to the presence of humidity, it has evolved into a low-pressure zone,” further predicting the possibility of additional moderate showers.
This recent rainfall occurs following a forecast by the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), which had predicted scattered showers in Karachi until August 23.
The PMD highlighted the strong monsoon’s influence on Sindh, forecasting rain with potential for isolated heavy falls in Karachi, Hyderabad, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Badin, Thatta, Tharparkar, and adjacent areas.
In response, the Sindh chief secretary has instructed the administration, local government, and the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to maintain a state of readiness. The chief secretary emphasized the necessity of ensuring swift drainage of rainwater and directed deputy commissioners to be present in the field with their respective teams.
Elaborating on the expected weather conditions, weather experts are advising citizens to limit outdoor activities due to the potential for thunderstorms in Karachi.
Furthermore, citizens are urged to reserve cellphone usage for emergency calls during intense thunderstorms. The public has also been cautioned against bathing or washing dishes during storms, as lightning strikes could affect homes and transmit current through plumbing.
