Karachi Traffic Police Warns of Fake Traffic Challan SMS Scam
The Karachi Traffic Police have alerted citizens to a rise in deceptive SMS messages that falsely pose as legitimate traffic violation notices.
Officials have stated that these messages are deceptive and have no affiliation with any governmental agency or platform.
On Monday, the Karachi Traffic Police issued a public service announcement addressing the proliferation of fraudulent SMS messages. These messages falsely claim to be official traffic tickets and solicit payments through EasyPaisa.
The department shared this warning through their official social media channels, stating: “Fraudulent individuals are sending deceptive SMS messages to the public regarding traffic fine payments via EasyPaisa. These messages are bogus, misleading, and fraudulent.”
Authorities emphasized that the Traffic Police do not issue fine notifications from personal cell phone numbers.
In a subsequent statement, the police force asserted: “These have absolutely no connection to the Karachi Traffic Police or any government body.” They further clarified: “The Karachi Traffic Police never send SMS messages from personal numbers to individuals for fine payments.”
The advisory urged residents to disregard such messages and to refrain from sending money through unfamiliar links or private accounts: “Citizens are advised not to trust these suspicious messages and not to make any payments to unauthorized links or numbers.”
Additionally, motorists were reminded to protect their personal data and to use official channels to confirm any fines: “Keep your personal information secure, and if you encounter any issues, please contact the Traffic Police helpline.”
