Karachi Police Finalize Case Closure in DHA Assault Incident
Authorities in Karachi have formally concluded their investigation into Salman Farooqui, who was implicated in an assault that occurred in the Ittehad Commercial area of Defence Housing Authority (DHA) involving a young man.
The case garnered considerable public attention last month after video footage of the altercation circulated widely on various social media platforms.
During court proceedings at the South Judicial Magistrate’s court in Karachi, law enforcement officials notified the court that the case against Farooqui had been officially dropped. Gizri Police submitted documentation confirming the case’s resolution.
According to the official police report, the individual who initially filed the complaint, identified as Dheeraj alias Dhanraj, has expressed his desire to discontinue pursuing legal action against the accused. He provided a written declaration affirming that neither he nor his sister experienced any form of mistreatment by Farooqui.
The report further clarified that, based on the complainant’s official statement, all accusations, inclusive of alleged death threats, have been rescinded.
Subsequently, the judicial body acknowledged the police report and adjourned any further hearings on the matter.
In the preceding month, Farooqui was taken into custody following allegations that he assaulted a motorcyclist in the presence of the latter’s sisters. A widely shared video depicted Farooqui allegedly reacting to a collision between his vehicle and a motorcycle by physically attacking the rider on Khayaban-e-Ittehad. Despite repeated interventions by the victim’s sisters, Farooqui persisted in the assault.
This episode sparked considerable public outcry online, which led the police to initiate a formal case against Farooqui along with another individual named Owais Hashmi.
