Weather Update: Karachi and Islamabad/Rawalpindi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has indicated the possibility of light rainfall in Karachi, forecasting generally cloudy conditions across the city.

According to the weather service, the minimum temperature was 29.4 degrees Celsius. The forecast suggests humid and partly cloudy conditions for the next 24 hours, with temperatures potentially reaching a high of 33-35°C. Karachi’s humidity is currently at 79%, accompanied by a sea breeze blowing at 15 km/h.

This change comes after Karachi residents experienced days of high temperatures. Relief came on Friday with the first rainfall, offering a noticeable reduction in the perceived temperature. Since then, the city has seen intermittent light rain, with the most recent occurring on Sunday in areas like Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, New Karachi, Bahadurabad, Sharea Faisal, Saddar, and Malir.

The Islamabad and Rawalpindi regions also experienced thunderstorms and rainfall, with some areas receiving up to 60mm of rain.

The weather department noted rainfall amounts of 27mm in Saidpur, 15mm in Shamsabad, 12mm in Kacheri, and 4mm in Pirwadhai. The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) managing director stated that personnel are on high alert to address potential emergencies, and teams with machinery have been stationed in vulnerable low-lying areas.
