Major Fire at Karachi Shopping Centre Extinguished
Authorities have confirmed that a significant fire that erupted at a shopping complex located on Abdullah Haroon Road in Karachi has been successfully contained.
Firefighters, utilizing six fire department vehicles and a specialized snorkel unit, successfully put out the blaze following considerable effort.
A fire department official stated that the fire was brought under control through the employment of six fire brigade vehicles in combination with a snorkel.
“Our teams dedicated themselves to controlling the conflagration,” he added. “Happily, no deaths or injuries occurred during this incident.”
The fire reportedly broke out on the fourth story of the multi-level structure, which accommodates numerous retail outlets and clothing storage facilities, as per the fire official.
The fire official emphasized that it remains premature to ascertain precisely the number of businesses impacted. He further stated, “We will only have the capacity to evaluate the comprehensive magnitude of destruction after the cooling procedure concludes.”
According to details shared by fire department representatives, the cooling procedure is presently underway with the intention of preventing the fire from reigniting. Water tankers, previously sent by the Water Corporation, are on scene providing support during the operation.
Earlier, an alert was triggered at the NEPA hydrant ensuring a consistent water supply to combat the flames.
A fire department spokesperson noted, “Due to the swift response, we successfully stopped the fire from spreading towards both the car parking levels and the office floors higher up.” Some vehicles that had been parked in the building were taken to safety, and there were no reports of any injured people.
Priorly, rescue personnel utilized a snorkel device to help people trapped on the roof area. The intense smoke density within the building presented difficulties for rescue efforts, though all people trapped inside have since been taken to safety.
Authorities kept the adjacent road closed off to vehicular movement, thus enabling emergency teams greater freedom to proceed in their duties. Police and Rangers are on hand maintaining general public safety.
