Major Fire at Karachi Shopping Center Contained
Authorities have confirmed that a significant fire at a shopping center located on Abdullah Haroon Road in Karachi has been successfully extinguished.
Firefighters, with the assistance of six fire trucks and a specialized snorkel vehicle, successfully controlled the blaze after several hours of dedicated effort.
A fire official stated that the fire was brought under control through the combined efforts of six fire brigade vehicles and a snorkel.
“Our teams worked diligently to suppress the fire,” he stated. “Thankfully, there were no fatalities in this incident.”
According to the fire official, the fire started on the fourth level of the building, which housed a variety of retail stores and clothing storage facilities.
The official emphasized that it was too soon to ascertain the precise quantity of shops impacted. He said, “A comprehensive assessment of the damage will be conducted after the cooling process concludes.”
Fire department representatives indicated that the cooling operation is in progress to prevent any recurrence of the fire. Water tankers, previously dispatched by the Water Corporation, are present at the scene to support the ongoing operation.
An emergency protocol was implemented at the NEPA hydrant to guarantee a consistent water supply.
A fire brigade spokesperson stated, “Due to the prompt response, the fire was prevented from extending to the parking garages and the office floors above.” Several automobiles parked in the building have been safely moved, and there have been no reported injuries.
Earlier, rescue teams utilized a snorkel to evacuate people stranded on the roof. The dense smoke inside the building presented difficulties for rescue efforts; however, everyone who was trapped has been successfully rescued.
To enable emergency personnel to continue their operations, authorities maintained a closure of the surrounding road to vehicular traffic. To ensure public safety, police and Rangers are on-site.
