Weather Update: Rain Forecast for Karachi and Punjab
Karachi residents can anticipate sporadic light rainfall between July 9 and 11. According to meteorologist Anjum Nazir, speaking on ‘Geo Pakistan,’ there’s a possibility of two to three rainfall spells starting in mid-July.
Currently, Karachi is experiencing intermittent showers in areas such as Saddar, Malir, and Liaquatabad.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that Karachi will experience humid and partly cloudy conditions over the next 24 hours. Drizzle or light rain is expected in various parts of Sindh’s provincial capital during both day and night.
Today’s maximum temperature in Karachi is projected to reach 35 degrees Celsius, with a recorded minimum of 27.5°C. The air humidity is at 75%.
Nazir also mentioned that monsoon rains are impacting the country’s northern regions, with Cherat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa receiving 92mm of rainfall in the last 24 hours.
“Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in Punjab’s upper and northeastern areas, and some parts of Sindh might experience light rain,” Nazir stated.
Furthermore, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has forecasted monsoon rains across Punjab from July 5 to 10.
Rain is also expected in Rawalpindi, Murree, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, and Faisalabad, with thunderstorms anticipated in Okara, Kasur, Khushab, and Sargodha.
Given the anticipated monsoon rains, the PDMA has cautioned that river water levels may rise from July 7.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a “National Emergencies Operation Center Alert” on X on Wednesday, alerting citizens to potential flood risks in different regions due to the upcoming monsoon rains.
“Monsoon rains are expected to continue from July 2 to 8, 2025, potentially causing flood risks,” the NDMA stated. “Heavy rainfall is likely in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and northeastern Punjab from July 5 to 8.”
