Multan Sultans Eliminated from PSL 10 After Defeat
LAHORE: Multan Sultans’ journey in Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 has concluded after a significant loss to Karachi Kings in their 20th match, which took place at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday. The Sultans managed to secure only a single victory in their last eight games.
Early Setbacks in Chase
Facing a target of 205, Multan Sultans experienced a disastrous beginning. Captain Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed for a duck on the second ball of the second over by Abbas Afridi, leaving the score at 3-1. Shortly after, Mir Hamza claimed the wicket of Usman Khan, who only managed to score one run.
The top order of the Sultans faltered under pressure. Yasir Khan showed some resilience with a score of 26 off 17 balls but became the third wicket to fall during the powerplay, leaving the team struggling at 34-3 in 4.2 overs.
Middle Order Struggles
Kamran Ghulam provided some stability, remaining not out for the majority of the innings and scoring 28 runs. However, the remaining batsmen failed to offer substantial support. Curtis Campher took crucial wickets, dismissing Mohammad Nabi (12) and Iftikhar Ahmed (8), which further reduced Multan’s score to 76-5 in 10.2 overs.
Michael Bracewell (2) and David Willey (0) offered little resistance, and the team’s collapse continued as Multan reached 85-7 by the 11.4-over mark. Khushdil Shah then dismissed Kamran Ghulam, dealing another blow to the Sultans’ chances at 88-8 in 12.4 overs.
Mohammad Nabi concluded the innings by taking his third wicket, dismissing Usama Mir for just 1 run. Mir Hamza secured the final wicket, Ubaid Shah (14), ending Multan’s hopes with only one win out of eight matches in the tournament.
Karachi Kings’ Innings
Earlier, Karachi Kings, after choosing to bat first, had a strong start, driven by aggressive batting from openers Tim Seifert and captain David Warner.
Although Ubaid Shah briefly slowed the momentum by dismissing Omair Bin Yousuf for 1 with the score at 58-3, Irfan Khan Niazi and James Vince formed a vital fourth-wicket partnership.
By the 12th over, Karachi had recovered to 112-3, with Niazi at 39 not out and Vince at 33. The duo added 78 runs before Curtis Campher broke the partnership, dismissing Niazi for 40 off 33 balls, leaving the Kings at 138-4 in 14.5 overs.
James Vince continued his strong performance in PSL 10, achieving another half-century and pushing Karachi to 155-4 after 17 overs. He was supported by Khushdil Shah, who made a quick impact with a striking cameo.
The Kings scored 16 runs in the last over, finishing at a notable 204-4. Vince remained unbeaten with 65, while Khushdil contributed a quick 33 off 13 balls, setting the stage for a convincing victory.
