Karachi Residents Find Relief as Light Rain Continues

After enduring days of intense heat, the inhabitants of Karachi experienced a welcome respite as the city was blessed with a second consecutive day of light rainfall on Saturday.

Scattered showers were observed across various areas including Lyari, Mauripur, and Clifton. The day’s high is anticipated to reach 36 degrees Celsius, accompanied by 68% humidity and westerly winds blowing at 19 km/h.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted additional intermittent showers throughout the day, along with the possibility of strong gusts.

This forecast follows brief showers in locales such as Gulshan-e-Maymar, Sohrab Goth, and Federal B Area the previous day, which provided much-needed relief to Karachi residents who had been facing temperatures exceeding 40°C.

Earlier, the Met Office indicated in its pre-monsoon advisory that moist air currents were making their way into the nation from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, paving the way for the approaching monsoon season. From June 22nd to 24th, Sukkur, Larkana, Dadu, and Jacobabad are likely to experience powerful winds and thunderstorm-related precipitation.

The PMD has also projected pre-monsoon rainfall in numerous other regions nationwide from today until June 23, with occasional breaks. This is expected to alleviate the severe heatwave impacting several areas.

The anticipated wet conditions will bring dust storms, rain accompanied by wind, and thunderstorms. Isolated spots might also encounter substantial rainfall and hailstorms.

The forecast further cautioned that strong winds and lightning could potentially inflict harm on susceptible structures, including utility poles, trees, and parked vehicles, notably in upper and central parts of the country like Islamabad. The current intense heatwave affecting many regions is predicted to gradually lessen during the forecast period.

Additionally, there is a chance of localized flooding in low-lying sections of Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Islamabad during periods of heavy rainfall. Farmers are advised to manage their agricultural activities in accordance with the weather predictions.
