Karachi Weather Forecast: Heatwave Conditions Expected to Persist

Karachi is expected to experience hot and humid conditions for the next 24 hours as the city remains under a heatwave, according to the Meteorological Department on Monday.

The weather authority has indicated that the metropolis is likely to see maximum temperatures ranging from 39°C to 41°C, while the recorded minimum temperature was 25°C.

The Met office further reported a humidity level of 46%, with hot and dry winds blowing from the northwest at a speed of four kilometres per hour.

Notably, forecasts suggest that Karachi will continue to experience heatwave conditions until April 23.

Earlier on Sunday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) cautioned Karachi residents to prepare for heatwave-like conditions, with anticipated temperatures reaching a scorching 41°C.

PMD Deputy Director Anjum Zaigham stated that temperatures across the city would remain 4°C to 6°C above the normal range from April 20 to April 23, due to an expected halt in sea breezes and alterations in wind patterns.

“We anticipate hot to very hot and dry weather during this period,” he mentioned, adding that northwesterly winds would temporarily disrupt the sea breeze, thus intensifying the heat.

Given the heatwave situation, medical professionals are advising people to take required safety measures.

Experts are advising citizens to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities between 11am and 4pm.

Hot and dry weather is expected in most plains. Jacobabad recorded the highest temperature in the past 24 hours at 43°C.

Separately, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms occurred in Swat, Mingora, and adjacent areas late last night, leading to pleasant weather conditions.

The Meteorological Department has also predicted strong winds and thunderstorms in isolated locations in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan for today (Monday).
